Animac starts its engines!
Animac, the International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia, organized by the Lleida City Hall, arrives in Lleida from the 25th to the 28th of February 2016 with the very best of current animated film.
To announce its 20th edition, Animac presents its poster, created like every year since its beginnings by Carles Porta, illustrator, graphic designer and animator from Lleida. This time, the image focuses on the role of women in the artistic universe, under the theme Female futures.
The section Petit Animac, focused towards a young and family-friendly audience, also has its own image that recalls an infinite world of imagination.
With this year’s theme, Female futures, Animac highlights the remarkable participation of female creators in a key moment. On one hand, we celebrate the extraordinary incorporation of female filmmakers, new themes and sensibilities on the independent field, but it also highlights the fact that this relevance – also found on the academic field – is still far away from a correspondence in the equal participation in filmmaking, TV production of videogames - in other words, the industry.
One more year, Lleida will become the worldwide capital of animation. The last week of February we’ll be able to enjoy four days filled with projections, conferences, workshops, shows, presentations and free activities for all ages such as Animacrea, Openscreen, Espacio Kids and Animac at Night. Animac keeps its usual sections of Feature Films, Shorts, Future Talent, Monographical, Special Guest, Animac Cartoon and Petit Animac. It also keeps its activities focused on the more profesional sector, such as Incubator, Market Pitch, Portfolio and Vermut Networking, which call will stay open until January 18th.
The Festival tops itself with each edition and in this one has received a total of 700 films of national and international procedence, from 66 different countries, a hundred more than in its previous edition and an increment of participation in professional projects compared to the same dates last year.
Animac keeps betting on the educational sector, with the will of contributing on the formation of kids and young people as the future audience and creators. This year the Festival has added a thousand schoolchildren since its past edition with the ampliation of the school sesión days, which will start on Monday, February 22nd. More than 8.500 alumni from 52 educational centers in Lleida and its surroundings have signed in for the school sessions.
With the goal of improving the knowledge of the audiovisual industry and the animation creation between schoolchldren and young students, the current edition of Animac strengthens, once again, its pedagogical vocation. All of it thanks to the workshops and specialized courses that will be held all year with the Municipal School of Art Leandre Cristòfol, the Ilerna formation center, the Youth Council, the Lleida University and the La Panera art center.
For the first time Animac offers a workshop in collaboration with Aula Hospitalaria Arnau de Vilanova which joins the previous initiatives.
Friday February 5th the Fesival offers, in collaboration with CCCB, a singular act that will give the first taste of the programming in Animac 2016.
