animation in our country. Artigas, who was influenced by avant-garde artists and animators such as Norman McLaren, has also made experimental films and researched and written about precinema, animated cinema, drawing and popular culture. In 2001 he founded Zoòtrop, Film Cultural Association, which would later encompass the supportive project “The Memory of the Cartoonists” to spread the life and work of Catalan artists since the 1930s. As a cultural manager, he has been running the cineclub of the Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona for 10 years and has been the founder, director and programmer of festivals such as the Animation Film Festival of the Filmoteca de Catalunya and Anima Basauri (1993-1995), among others. He has been a jury member in festivals such as Cinanima (Espinho, Portugal).

In a year dedicated to memory, Animac recognises the important work of Jordi Artigas with the Animac Trajectory Award 2020 for his valuable contribution to the study and dissemination of independent animation cinema in Catalonia and for his connection with the beginnings of Animac, since in 1996 Artigas directed Cinemàgic, the precursor to what is now Animac.
